HOU Girl Action Teams
Houston Girl Action Team Projects (2010)
HOU Team #1 – Edison Middle School – Edison Goes Green!
Edison’s girls were sick of seeing a littered school environment and a lack of resources for proper recycling of waste. They decided to increase recycling on campus, and help Edison become greener. The school currently has only one paper recycling bin that it is not utilized to its greatest potential, and much of the garbage the school generates is recyclable paper. Working with school administrators, the school district and local recycling vendors, the girls are leading a campaign to place individual recycling bins in each classroom and office and to work out a system through which paper can be delivered to the large recycling bin in the back of the school. They plan to get approval before the end of school and start implementation by next school year at the latest.
HOU Team #3 – It’s Cool 2 Care – Summer 2010
GFC and It’s Cool 2 Care are partnering to take the service girls are already doing in the IC2C program and deepen the impact through social change. The team is starting in June and the program will run through the summer. Check back here for updates!
