GFC International - Winter 2009 Updates!
Girls For A Change continues to partner with non profits to bring our 7-Steps to Change Your World to youth around the globe. We first launched our international work in April 2008 with Soccer Without Borders in Kampala, Uganda. In August 2008, we collaborated with Girls Helping Girls to bring GFC to India.
In January 2009, we teamed up again with SWB for programming in El Salvador and Nicaragua. We are also working with GHG again to bring GFC to 3-4 countries in Africa in April 2009.
See updates about our international programming below. Check out our previous work with SWB here.
Soccer Without Borders, El Salvador
Soccer Without Borders staff brought GFC programming to El Salvador in partnership with Magicians Without Borders. Through a week long camp in San Salvador, youth worked through GFC's 7 Steps to Change Your World. The GFC programming complemented the positive choices and community work activities developed by the local Salvadoran organization that hosted the camp. The youth now have the tools they need to create change where they live and will continue working in their communities with their local mentors. Check out a picture below!
Soccer Without Borders, Nicaragua
Starting in late February 2009, faculty and students from Dartmouth College will begin implementing Girls For a Change during their Girl Nights program. The SWB volunteers have been in the country since early January building relationships with the girls and implementing the soccer program. Stay up to date by checking out their blog here.
Girls Helping Girls - India
In the summer of 2008, Girls Helping Girls members traveled to India to bring GFC to young women who were victims of human trafficking, sexual exploitation or the children of sex workers. Through local organizations in India, the GHG volunteers worked with girls on empowerment activities and GFC's 7 Steps to Change Your World. The girls focused their change on building skills to improve their personal lives. Local volunteers translated GFC materials for the girls. One of the girls reported to the GHG volunteers, "You taught me I can make a difference. I'm a change maker and I have the ability to stand up." Pictures from the trip are below and a documentary about the trip will be released soon. Check back here for the link!
International Work
GFC launched its first international programming in the summer of 2008 in partnership with Soccer Without Borders. Check out the results of that work and what we are up to in 2008-09:
