What's Hot Houston - Spring 2010

Girls For A Change is partnering with two community organizations in Houston this spring. Check  them out below!

Thomas Edison Middle School
A teacher at Edison contacted GFC in 2008 regarding our National Tour. Since we were not starting a site in Houston and did not have expansion plans there at the time, she and her co-worker started a girls group using online resources. When we received the Pine Sol sponsorship, she was one of the first women we called in Houston. They enthusiastically agreed to bring GFC to the school and incorporate it in to their GEMS group they were running with girls. The school identifies 92% of their students as economically disadvantaged and a quarter of the students are English Language Learners.

NFL YET Finnigan Park, Boys and Girls Club
NFL Youth Education Towns are educational and recreational facilities for at-risk children that have been established in the Super Bowl host cities since 1992. The NFL donates more than $1 million toward the YET project annually. This NFL YET center was created in 2004 in partnership with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Houston. They are starting GFC as part of their girl programming offered to teens.
