What's Hot Winter - Start of Richmond Girl Action Teams!

On January 10, 2009, our first class of GFC Richmond Coaches participated in Coach Orientation, which officially kicks off our Girl Action Teams. We are honored to have 25 Coaches and 13 GFC teams in partnership with Richmond Public Schools, Communities in Schools, Henrico County and community based organizations.

Our Girl Action Teams will be at the following sites:

  • Albert Hill Middle
  • Binford Middle
  • Chandler Middle
  • Thompson Middle
  • Henderson Middle
  • Thomas Jefferson High
  • John Marshall High
  • Huguenot High
  • Richmond Technical Center
  • ART 180 at Elkhardt Middle
  • Henrico County Prevention Services
  • Faces of HOPE
  • Camp Diva at the Family Resource Center in Church Hill

Our teams will start meeting at the end of January. We'll keep you updated on their progress and the projects they are working on throughout the Richmond area. We will also be celebrating the accomplishments of Girl Action Teams at our year end Completion Ceremony in late April or early May. This information will be updated on our site and an email with details will be sent out as well. If you are not on our mailing list already - sign up today on the front page of our website.

We also partnered with Partnership for the Future for a Change Your World Training. The 90- minute training focuses on learning what social change is, recognizing examples of social change and getting girls started on their path of the change with GFC's Girl Action Kit. We had a great day with 60 girls in attendance! They had many ideas about creating change including projects to tackle teen pregnancy, violence and child abuse. Check out some pictures below. You can see more pictures on our Girl Action Network.
