What's Hot: Fall!

As the new program year starts, Phoenix has a lot to be excited about! This year we will have 30 Girl Action Teams – a 50% increase in teams from last year -  working to change their communities. We are so grateful for the coaches, school and organization liaisons, and amazing community members who have helped to make this expansion possible!

Welcome New Phoenix Staff Member!
GFC Phoenix is pleased to welcome Stephanie Garman as the Phoenix Program Manager! Stephanie will be working with over 20 Girl Action Teams and 50 coaches to help empower young girls throughout the Phoenix area. See her bio here.

New Advisory Board Members: We are excited to have 4 new members joining the Phoenix Advisory Board this year! The addition of Vicki Davis, Elizabeth Ditlevson, Vanessa Gonzalez, and Linda Recker to our already amazing board is sure to make this year in Phoenix the most successful one yet!

Vicki Davis is a manager of Key Accounts for SRP Commercial Customer Services and has a great passion for Girls For A Change and women's issues! Vicki is also involved with the Women's Interest Network at SRP, AWEE, Leadership West and Co-Chair of the Tempe ACS Relay for Life. A native of Illinois, she holds a bachelor of science degree in business administration from Morningside College in Iowa.

Elizabeth Ditlevson is Director of Domestic Violence Services for the Arizona Coalition Against Domestic Violence. Elizabeth has been a GFC coach since 2006 and coached our Girls Steering Committee last year. Elizabeth's work with the girls on the steering committee as well as her instrumental role in planning Spring Into Action and the Completion Ceremony were great assets to the organization.

Vanessa Gonzalez is the Director of Legislative Affairs for the Arizona Department of Commerce. She has been very involved in political work both in Arizona and elsewhere and has strong experience in government and political communications.  Vanessa was previously the Deputy Director of Legislative Affairs for the Governor's office.

Linda Recker is the Finance Controller for the Customer Fulfillment, Planning & Logistics Group at Intel Corporation.  She is a graduate of both the Mesa Leadership Development and Chandler Leadership Institute programs.  She spent a year as a Rotary Exchange Student in Brazil and a year as a Graduate Rotary Foundation Scholar in France.  Over the years she has volunteered with Junior Achievement, Valley Big Brothers Big Sisters, and a local literacy program

Girls For A Change National Tour is Coming To Phoenix!
The GFC National Tour will be stopping in Phoenix the first week in October. The tour cities include Surprise, Scottsdale, and Mesa. At each school, girls will participate in a Change Your World Training to  learn about social change, discover a diverse group of social change role models, and get user-friendly tools and resources for starting change on their own! All girls will receive GFC’s Change Your World Action Kit, a how-to-guide for creating social change. We are so excited to be able to give 500 girls across the Valley the tools and resources they need to make change in their community!

Please join GFC Phoenix for an “Empower Hour” to learn about our program in the valley and how you can get involved! We hold Empower Hours monthly throughout the greater Phoenix area, visit our website for more details on upcoming dates.
